I’ve been very silent recently, but it hasn’t felt like a good time to give out tips about how to write better.

I do like a brand new year. I don’t make resolutions, but I do tidy up my working habits and straighten things out a little. And I do make changes.

I’m all about the words on the page. But sometimes it’s good to do something a bit different.

Why do we write words that we don’t use when we speak?

This year two of my clients have turned up on the shortlist for the Best Written Content category for the Archiboo Web Awards.

The reasons sometimes seem endless: it’s difficult to get started, difficult to keep going, and difficult to get finished.

Those pesky descriptions of ourselves that we all have to write at one time or another.

Are we better at writing about other people than about ourselves?

I’m a words person, not a numbers person. But I know that in business you can’t ignore the numbers, and I’m always up for getting to grips with that side of things.

I can’t promise I always do all of these things all of the time, but I know that each of them helps me at least some of the time.

This year I’m stepping out of my comfort zone – words – and I’m giving you 10 little films, all starring architects.

They’re the real movers and shakers of the writing world, and they do a lot of the real work of getting down to specifics.

What’s wrong with the way architects communicate? And how can they get better at it?
